Personal Statement. As a physician and as an expert witness, I feel that it’s important to do your best. I strive to do the best quality work that I can, in a timely fashion, and with special attention to providing you the most thoughtful and ethical consideration possible. From the moment a case is received for review until the resolution of legal action, I treat the case as an opportunity to collaborate with lawyers and their clients to attain the best attainable outcome.
Robert A. Ertner, M.D.
Robert A. Ertner, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist and expert witness. He is available for chart review, deposition, and testimony for both plaintiff and defense.
Dr. Ertner is a full-time anesthesiologist in private practice in Northern California. He has served previously as an academic physician teaching residents in both MD and CRNA programs, engaged in locum tenens work supervising CRNAs, and presently provides care to over 700 patients each year. His group is involved providing spinal, epidural, regional, and general anesthesia for patients undergoing general, orthopedic, bariatric, urologic, vascular, and neurologic surgery. He specializes in cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures for which he is fellowship trained.
Dr. Ertner received his board certification in 2005, re-certified in 2015, and engages in maintenance of certification requirements. He received his diplomat status as an echocardiographer in 2007. He is licensed in Texas, Georgia, Missouri, and California, where he presently resides.
He became involved with medical-legal work in 2013 and has rendered his services for both plaintiff’s and defense attorneys and directly to patients and doctors seeking his assistance. He has provided expert testimony in both written form, during depositions, and in court.
Dr. Ertner is experienced as an anesthesiology expert witness in the following areas:

- Dr. Ertner is a graduate of Texas Tech University School of Medicine class of 2000.
- Dr. Ertner completed his residency in anesthesiology in 2004, and his fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic anesthesia from Emory University in 2005.
- He was conferred diplomat status as an intra-operative echocardiographer in 2007.
